How do I Install marine LED strip lights?
Our Plash experts recommend installing your marine LED strip lights with an RTV Silicone like the Plash 2100 RTV Silicone. Depending on your installation location, we also offer a variety of mounting clips to hold the lights in place.
We encourage you to review our Flexible Light Strip Instruction & User Manual prior to installing your new lights.
Can waterproof LED strip lights be cut to length?
Yes. These flexible LED strip lights can be cut at designated cut points marked along the strip. Cutting anywhere other than the marked locations may damage the lighting circuit and prevent portions of the strip from functioning properly. Always refer to the product's installation instructions before trimming a strip light.
Keep in mind, once our Flexible light strips are cut, they are no longer able to be warrantied. PlashLights carries a variety of sizes from 1-32 ft. If you need a custom cut or size, give us a call and we'll be happy to help.
How long are Plash Waterproof LED Flexible Light Strips?
All PlashLight's flexible light strips come in a variety of sizes from 1 ft - 32 ft. These lengths may vary depending on the color and voltage. PlashLights can also accommodate custom sizing if needed.
What does IP68 mean?
IP68 is a waterproof rating that indicates a product is protected against dust intrusion and is the highest rating for electronic devices.
IP stands for Ingress Protection.
The number 6 indicates the level of protection from solids, dust and debris. 6 is the highest rating meaning a device is "dust tight"
The number 8 is the level of protection from liquids. 8 is the highest rating for these devices and indicates that a device is protected from moisture ingress and can handle being submerged to up 18 ft for more than 30 minutes.
Do I need a controller for RGB or RGBW strip lights?
Yes. RGB, RGBW, and RGB+CCT strip lights require a compatible controller to change colors, adjust brightness (dimmable), and access lighting effects and patterns.
We offer various RGB Controllers depending on your application needs. Our best seller, the PLASH RGBW Bluetooth LED Light Controller is waterproof and can be operated with the free PlashLights app available in your smartphone's preferred app store.
How many lights can I put on one RGB Controller?
The Plash Bluetooth RGBW Controller handles 200W and 5A per color channel.
Depending on what you already have hooked up to your console, you can put many of our lights on a single controller.
You can also divide sections of your boat into Zones and control each Zone with our PlashLights App.
The PlashLights App is available in your app store and easily links to the Plash Bluetooth RGBW Controller allowing you to customize your lights and be the coolest person on the water.
What's the difference between RGB, RGBW and RGBW CCT LED strip lights?
RGB LED strip lights use red, green, and blue LEDs to create a wide range of colors.
RGBW strip lights include an additional dedicated white LED. This allows RGBW lighting to produce cleaner, brighter white illumination while still providing millions of color-changing options.
RGB+CCT combines RGB color-changing technology with adjustable white color temperatures (3000K-6000K). Users can select vibrant colors or adjust white lighting from warm white to cool white depending on the application. This provides the highest level of customization for both functional and accent lighting.
What is the difference between Warm White and Cool White LED Lighting?
Warm White and Cool White LED lights produce different color temperatures that affect the appearance and functionality of your lighting.
Warm White lighting typically ranges from 2700K to 3500K and produces a softer, yellow-toned light similar to traditional incandescent bulbs. It creates a comfortable, inviting atmosphere and is commonly used in entertainment areas, seating areas, cabins, and pontoon boats where ambiance is important.
Cool White lighting typically ranges from 5000K to 6500K and produces a brighter, crisp white light with a slight blue tint. It provides greater visibility and is often preferred for fishing boats, work areas, decks, cockpits, storage compartments, and task lighting applications where seeing details clearly is the priority.
When should I choose Warm White Lighting?
Warm White LED lighting is ideal for:
- Pontoon boat entertainment areas
- Seating and lounge areas
- Cabin interiors
- Dock and patio lighting
- Courtesy lighting
- Accent lighting applications
Many boat owners prefer Warm White lighting when creating a relaxing atmosphere for evening cruises, entertaining guests, or spending time at the dock.
When should I choose Cool White Lighting?
Cool White LED lighting is ideal for:
- Fishing boats
- Cockpit lighting
- Deck lighting
- T-top lighting
- Storage compartments
- Work and maintenance areas
- Under-gunnel lighting
The brighter, cleaner appearance of Cool White light makes it easier to tie knots, rig tackle, locate equipment, clean the boat, and safely move around the vessel at night.
What color temperature is most popular for boats?
For recreational and entertainment-focused boats such as pontoons and cruisers, Warm White is often preferred because it creates a more inviting atmosphere. For center consoles, bay boats, and offshore fishing vessels, Cool White is typically the most popular choice because it provides superior visibility and functionality during nighttime operation.
When considering which flexible light strip is the best, we recommend our RGB-CCT Waterproof Flexible Light Strips so you don't have to choose.
You can switch between:
- Warm White for relaxing at the dock
- Cool White for fishing or navigating
- RGB colors for entertainment and accent lighting
